This year’s Southern Oregon Smoked Salmon Fest will be taking place on September 23rd from 1-5pm at the Medford Commons Pear Blossom Park!

IN 2017, WE WANT TO RAISE $30,000 FOR MASLOW PROJECT!
The Southern Oregon Smoked Salmon Festival is held in the heart of Southern Oregon Wine Country and features local music, wine, beer, food and a smoked salmon competition. We look forward to providing you and your family a top-notch event that celebrates the popularity of smoking salmon in the Rogue Valley. Partnering with leading local culinary personalities, we will bring a spotlight to the craft of smoking salmon in a judged and recorded event. The winner will receive a $1000 cash prize and awarded the distinction of the best smoked salmon in Southern Oregon. The SOSSF is a child friendly event!

SMOKED SALMON COMPETITION RULES:

All competitors will be required to bring 3-5 pounds of their smoked salmon to be sampled by all those in attendance. Entering the competition gives you the opportunity to win one of our generous cash prizes of  $1,000.00, $500.00, or $250.00, as selected by our judges, and/or receive the title and trophy of “2017 Southern Oregon Smoked Salmon Fest People’s Choice” winner.

How the competition will work this year:

  • Competitors will provide samples of smoked salmon, enough for over 500 people (3-5lbs of salmon, weight will be verified before the event begins).
  • There will be 10 tables at the competitor section in Pear Blossom Park; you will share a table/”booth” with another
  • The blind judge tasting will take place from 1-2:00pm, during which time your salmon will be given a number, judges will taste all samples and rank their top choices for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place.  Open tasting for the “People’s Choice” will take place from 1:00-4:00pm. Competitors will be at their assigned booth and interacting with the attendees, explaining your smoking process, and why they should vote for you for “People’s Choice!”
  • Event attendees will be given 3 voting tickets each upon entrance to the event with the opportunity to buy Votes will be tallied at 4:00pm. Judge’s selection for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and People’s Choice  award will be announced at 4:30pm.

Your entry fee includes a booth, sample trays, and entrance for 1 more person beside yourself (free admissions), and two free drink tickets for the competitor. All competitors will be mentioned on the event program and when we announce the results.

We understand that some seasoned salmon smokers take several days or more before their product is ready – which is why there will be no smoking onsite as this is a one day event.

Each competitor must provide photo documentation of their smoking process by submitting 3 photos, with the person entering the contest included in the photo, via email to oregonsmokedsalmon@gmail.com. The photo submitted will be verified by a photo ID you provide at the event before accepting an award.

  • Each entry must be vacuum sealed or in an airtight container and the label must reflect the following:
  • Weight of portion
  • Date prepared
  • Name, address & phone number

Each Competitor must bring a minimum of 3lbs and maximum of 5lbs of smoked salmon for tasting Each entry must remain in the packaging until the date of the event. Packages will be opened by the event staff at the competitor’s booth.
